![]() ![]() (Note this is just one example, you can play around with all kinds of different font categories and mix them up). One of the easiest ways to get contrast on a web site for example, is to use a very large serif font as a heading, with small body text set in a sans serif font. By using typefaces and design elements that are clearly very different from each other, simple designs become much more eye-catching. We can achieve much more appealing and attractive designs using contrasting typefaces. Is it a mistake? In the previous example of a concordant relationship, I made this sentence stand out by using italics. The font has changed, but the reader might wonder why. The bigger problem lies in the sentence near the bottom, “There is nothing surprising in this”. The heading here is not too much of a problem. Both Georgia and Times New Roman are serif fonts and while they do look a little bit different from each other, they still look too similar. This time I’ve put the heading in Georgia. It might sound like that’s not a problem, but it actually disturbs the reader when a change of font occurs and the second font is very similar to the first one. For example Futura offers 19 different styles within the one typeface.Ĭonflict occurs when you use two typefaces that are too similar. If you feel restricted by just one typeface, remember that many professional fonts offer a number of styles within the one typeface. You really can’t go too far wrong by sticking to just one typeface in your designs. Overall the design is subdued, but it is also neat. The heading is larger and bolder than the body text, the first letter is larger and there is some italic type in the heading and near the bottom of the body text in the sentence “There is nothing surprising in this”. Within the Times New Roman typeface there are several styles, namely Regular (Roman), Italic, Bold and Bold Italic. In the example below I’m using one font, Times New Roman. However, if you want a clean design with little fuss or clutter, you can achieve that by sticking with the one typeface and keeping other design elements simple. If you want something high impact and in your face, this is not it. A concordant relationship in typography can be a good one depending on the aim of your design. This type of design tends to sedate and evoke a fairly calm feeling. Let’s take a look at these three.Ī design is considered to be concordant when you use only one typeface, and when the other elements of your page do not have much variety in weight, size and style. There are also relationships that we want to avoid. As type is one of the major building blocks of page design on the web and in print, it’s a reasonable question to ask how do I choose my typefaces and which ones work best together? Well there are relationships that exist in typography that can help us reign in a design and subdue it when required, or to produce something very eye-catching and bold. ![]()

God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth." But the decisive, irresistible gift of grace was not given.Ģ Timothy 2:24-25 says, "The Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kindly to every one, an apt teacher, forbearing, correcting his opponents with gentleness. There were many influences on his life for good. And because he knew this, he explains it with the words, No one comes to me unless it is given to him by my Father. Second, notice that the reason Jesus says this, is to explain why "there are some who do not believe." We could paraphrase it like this: Jesus knew from the beginning that Judas would not believe on him in spite of all the teaching and invitations he received. Coming to Jesus is "given" to some and not to others. And he said, 'This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.'"įirst, notice that coming to Jesus is called a gift. Specifically, John 6:64-65 says, "'But there are some of you that do not believe.' For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that should betray him. Again some say, "He draws all men, not just some." But this simply evades the clear implication of the context that the Father's "drawing" is why some believe and not others. In John 6:44 Jesus says, "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him." This drawing is the sovereign work of grace without which no one can be saved from their rebellion against God. But to see this most persuasively we should look at the Scriptures. If a person remains too hard hearted and proud to submit to God, it is because that person has not been given such a willing spirit. That is what it means to be "unable to submit to God." If a person becomes humble enough to submit to God it is because God has given that person a new, humble nature. Someone may say, "Yes, the Holy Spirit must draw us to God, but we can use our freedom to resist or accept that drawing." Our answer is: except for the continual exertion of saving grace, we will always use our freedom to resist God. If we are dead in our sins, totally unable to submit to God, then we will never believe in Christ unless God overcomes our rebellion. If our doctrine of total depravity is true, there can be no salvation without the reality of irresistible grace. More specifically irresistible grace refers to the sovereign work of God to overcome the rebellion of our heart and bring us to faith in Christ so that we can be saved. This is what Paul taught in Romans 9:14-18, which caused his opponent to say, "Why then does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?" To which Paul answers: "Who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, 'Why have you made me thus?' Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for beauty and another for menial use?" (Romans 9:20f). ![]() When God undertakes to fulfill his sovereign purpose, no one can successfully resist him. "Our God is in the heavens he does whatever he pleases" (Psalm 115:3). "He does according to his will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth and none can stay his hand!" (Daniel 4:35). ![]() The doctrine of irresistible grace means that God is sovereign and can overcome all resistance when he wills. In fact the whole history of Israel in the Old Testament is one protracted story of resistance, as the parable of the wicked tenants shows (Matthew 21:33-43 cf. ![]() God gives many entreaties and promptings which are resisted. In Acts 7:51 Stephen says to the Jewish leaders, "You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit as your fathers did." And Paul speaks of grieving and quenching the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30 1 Thessalonians 5:19). It means that the Holy Spirit can overcome all resistance and make his influence irresistible. The doctrine of irresistible grace does not mean that every influence of the Holy Spirit cannot be resisted. ![]() ![]() Bands of torrential rain will plague southeast Texas into the middle of next week. While most people focus on wind, the true destructive power of this storm will result from water. Hurricane Harvey has become a tourist it's going to hang around for a while and meander due to weak steering currents. Remember that most hurricanes come and go.they make landfall and keep on moving. However, this is not the only reason the Gulf Coast will see such extraordinary rain totals. Is global warming causing the incredible rain amounts expected with Harvey? As I explained above, increased atmospheric humidity due to global warming is making storms like Harvey more predisposed to heavier rainfall. So global warming may have been part of the cause that Harvey rapidly intensified Friday. Since global warming is warming our oceans, it is possible that the warmer Gulf temperatures have been impacted by the warming climate. This is the first Category 4 storm to make landfall in Texas since Hurricane Carla in 1961. Harvey could have developed regardless of the warming climate.Ĭould global warming have affected Harvey's strength at landfall? Harvey strengthened rapidly from a Category 1 to a Category 4 storm in just over a day, undoubtedly due to very warm Gulf of Mexico waters it traveled over. So let's now apply all of this to Hurricane Harvey:ĭid global warming cause Harvey? No. The only problem is that people get in the way, and hurricanes of the future likely will have higher rainfall and increased potential for catastrophic flooding events. ![]() So hurricanes are necessary to balance the planet's water budget. What most people don't realize is that, as summer wanes and we transition into fall, hurricanes are the atmosphere's natural mechanism to return the summertime water vapor back into the ocean. Statistics show that extreme precipitation events nationwide are increasing, and this also applies to tropical systems. Our warmer world with higher atmospheric humidity means that tropical weather systems have more moisture to tap into, which means greater potential for increased rainfall. Something else to consider is that, as the world warms, more ocean water evaporates into the atmosphere (which has been documented - it's happening). This water vapor is what hurricanes turn into rainfall. will likely be stronger, with a more severe storm surge and higher winds. ![]() ![]() But a hurricane that does form and heads toward the U.S. Is that good or bad news? Fewer hurricanes mean a lower chance that one hits the U.S. The bottom line is that our future may be one of fewer but stronger hurricanes. ![]() So even if the coming decades show a decrease in overall hurricanes, those hurricanes that do develop in otherwise favorable conditions will likely be stronger. A warming world means that ocean temperatures increase too, and we all know that warm ocean water is the fuel that powers hurricanes. In fact, some scientists say that a warmer planet will actually result in fewer hurricanes. Scientists are uncertain about whether or not global warming will cause more hurricanes. Here's the truth about the relationship between global warming and Hurricane Harvey: Did global warming cause Hurricane Harvey? While there is tremendous scientific agreement among scientists about the basic science of climate change, politics and social media have created an atmosphere where a lot of incorrect information is being bantered about. ![]() ![]() ![]() Order MacBook A1534 parts from our store and keep your MacBook in top condition for years.
